Welcome to The Expanse Podcast Double Take. This is where I give you my first impressions right after seeing the eighth episode of season 2 titled “Pyre”. I’m creating these short posts to encourage listener feedback by asking questions about the episode.

This week’s question are…

1) Will Alex and his family reunite?

2) Why is Fred upset with Holden

3) What’s going on with Amos

I’d like to thank everyone who has subscribed to this podcast and encourage you to join the discussion by sending in your feedback by calling +1-805-910-7656 or by e-mailing me at feedback@solotalkmedia.com or visiting the website at solotalkmedia.com. 1. Hi Mark,

Elisa (EE-LEESA) from LA here again.

I thought I sent written feedback for last week’s episode, but I guess I did not hit the submit button. I enjoyed this episode. There were spots that really affected me, like the refugee situation with Prax and Doris. It really hit home with the current world events regarding refugees, immigrants, and taking sides. I also enjoyed the whole commando situation at the end where our Roci crew had to save Fred and Drummer. The Belter uprising and factions are very realistic. Drummer is fierce and becoming one of my favorite characters.

Now on to your double take questions:

    1) Yes, I believe Alex will reunite with his family on Mars at some point, but I don’t think it will be a happy ending.

    2) Fred wants power and he knows the way to power and complete freedom and legitimacy for him is the proto molecule.

    3) Ever since Amos saw that little kid and his Mom among the Ganymede refugees, it stirred memories of his childhood that he still hasn’t found peace with or any resolution. Also Cortazar and his lack of emotions has also affected Amos. Amos wants to change but maybe he cannot.

Loving the podcast, expanse fandom and the show.

  2. Hey Mark!

This is Jay from Kalamazoo,MI, USA. I’m doing a written feedback because I’m starting to lose my voice again due to the flu or something else.

I have divided this feedback into three sections. First is some news, second is answers to your feedback questions, and third is for the book readers only section.

So first, in case you haven’t heard, the Expanse was just renewed for a third season according to SyFy!

    http://www.syfy.com/theexpanse/blog/this-is-not-a-drill-the-expanse-is-renewed-for-season-3

So I’m pretty excited about this news.

    Second, the feedback.

1.) I feel like we’re being set up to meet Alex’s family. Maybe in a later season. We’ve seen Alex glance at a photo of his wife and kid longingly more than once throughout the show. I feel like it’ll be an awkward and angry reunion.

2.) I’m guessing Fred has had enough of Holden not listening to Fred, especially after all the hospitality Fred has shown to the Roci crew and to top it off the whole hostage incident where Fred was betrayed by some Thycho employees, saw his innocent employees get murdered in front of him, and his second in command shot through the gut.

Fred is a tough guy but everyone has a breaking point and I believe we came pretty close to it this episode. Because of this, I think I understand Fred’s anger at Holden for wanting to go to Ganymede to destroy the remaining protomolecule.

On a side note. Drummer doesn’t take crap from no one. I smiled when she shot the two traitors without hesitation despite her serious and probably painful gut injury.

3.) I feel like Amos has been suppressing his past for a long time. But seeing that little boy defend his mother triggered some kind of memory. Maybe for the first time in a long time Amos felt emotions….Something he rarely feels. On a related note, I love how the show is working in small parts of “The Churn” novella into the show.

Finally part three, the book readers section. Not a lot to write here. I am loving the show’s interpretation of the books. I understand they need to change some story elements to add suspense to fit everything into an episode or a season.

I also love how they expedited Prax and the Roci crew meeting on Tycho instead of Ganymede. Now I wonder if the huge gunfights that happen between the Roci crew and the goons on Tycho will happen. I’d really like to see Amos shelling out mass havoc using his signature auto shotgun from the books.

    Regards,
    Jay
