Welcome to the Orphan Black Double Take where I give you my first impressions right after seeing the season 4 finale episode titled “From Dancing Mice to Psychopaths” for the first time. I’m creating these short posts to encourage listener feedback by asking questions about the episode.

Feedback deadline is Monday morning at 9am Eastern Time.

This week’s questions are…

1) Why shouldn’t Cosima tell anyone about the cure?

2) Why did Dr. Van Leer save Delphine?

3) Who is Westmoreland, what are his objectives, and what did Susan mean by he’s getting capricious in his old age and losing his patients for natural selection?

Send me your thought about these questions or any other part of this latest episode of Orphan Black.

I’d like to thank everyone who has subscribed to this podcast and encourage you to join the discussion by sending in your feedback by calling +1-805-910-7656 or by e-mailing me at feedback@solotalkmedia.com.

  1. Hi Mark,

That was a finale and then some! We have more questions now, I think, than at any point in the show. And they all have to be answered in just the one season.
On that 1 more season I believe that some of the Canadian government funding has a 5 year limit – The show Lost Girl had the same issue.

By the way I learnt on BBC America writer’s blog that Helena’s hiss at the end of the Helena & Adele face off was a Tatiana improv – it was not scripted.

    Now to your questions.

    1 Don’t tell anyone

I think Delphine means anyone in that camp. If they are survivalist types they may well not believe in medicine that is “not natural”. Even more so if they are Proletheans. Although, given that the guide person did have the run of the Duncan house, it is more likely that they are a sect of Neolution.

    2 Why save Delphine?

Before she was co-opted as a monitor Delphine was involved in other research. Dr. Leekie even called her out as a eugenicist back in season 1. They probably want her to continue that (or similar) research.

    3 Who is Westmoreland?

I can only answer this with more questions. Is he the original Westmoreland, or a descendant? If he’s the original he’s about 150 years old in which case no wonder he’s becoming capricious. As to his losing his patience with natural selection – that sounds to me like he was putting the pressure on when Susan created Charlotte and that he’s leaning toward supporting the bot technology.
The irony here is that in Helena and Kira’s super-healing abilities (and possibly Sarah’s which we’ll find out about next season with that knife wound) we already have an evolutionary step forward. They just don’t recognise it.
